Key Programming Watch the SMART PRO add GM Proximity Keys for a Chevy Traverse!

Key Programming today is a common practice for locksmiths! This 2019 Chevy Traverse happens to use one of the newer GM prox keys. Lucky for us, Ilco came out with this exact prox remote, so that's what we're going to be using today. I went and I took out the emergency key to duplicate it to this new key, I actually ran into a few little problems. If you're going just to use a regular manual, high-security key duplicator, like the swift plus, well, it wasn't a better problem, but I happen to use the future auto. And for some reason, they had the wrong preset put in there for the code series. So I had to do a little more work and go through and find the rank code series, which for this particular key happens to be the Z code series, not the V as in Victor code series. So if you run into that problem, you get to be a little creative and look around at the different available high-security code series to make sure you're doing it correctly. But now that we have that finished, let's go ahead, hop inside here, and program this prox key.

To begin the programming, we have the Smart Pro, which is connected to the OBD2 port, and we also have the 'MYKEYS Pro' for all the information we need about this vehicle. Information that will let you know if you need any PIN code, originate or only duplicate, or add a key.

When you have everything set up, the first step is to go to 'Vehicle Selection' as you can see below, and select 'Chevrolet.' Then we will select theTraverse, 2019. The MYKEYS Pro app can give you all the tips, tricks, and information you need to navigate the selection process.

To connect the vehicle, simply hit Connect. Switch Ignition OFF, which is easy because it's a prox key.

Click ‘Add Keys then hit the play button. When ‘Please read PIN code using Read Pin procedure’ appears, go back and hit the read pin button. Now, hit play.

Once the Pin Code appears, hit OK. Then go to add keys and click the play button. All doors must be closed during the procedure. All already programmed keys should remain outside of the vehicle. Set keys right outside. Click okay and wait for 10 minutes. If it fails or an incorrect Pin code appears, go back to read pin and repeat the process. The first time it failed, the reason is that I opened the door and after I hit the OK, make sure all entries are closed button.

The pocket of this vehicle is located inside the center console so remove the little tray, and pull the small piece of carpet on the bottom. Put the keys to the molded out area and hit OK. Push the Stop/Start button once and wait for the Program prox keys to finish. Once done ‘Do you want to program any more keys’ will appear so hit No. Press the Start/Stop button to switch the ignition off. Press it again and hold it for 12 seconds. After that, press and hold the Start/Stop button until the ignition switch is turned on and wait. Then we'll press the Start/Stop button to switch the ignition off and wait for a little programming. All right, the press holds Start/Stop button until the ignition switches back on. Press the Start/Stop button to switch the ignition off. Check proximity remote to see if it locks and unlocks the vehicle. There we go. We'll hit OK and you’re good to go!

For each programming done, you should test out the keys and be sure to hear the locks cycle. Compare the function of your newly programmed keys with the original key to be sure that everything is still working. You can try to start your ignition and controls with the new programmed key to ensure it is working the same.

And that is how you program an extra prox key on a 2019 Chevy Traverse with the Smart Pro. Thank you and we'll see you next time!
