Locksmithing 101 | Townsteel Outdoes Themselves Again! E-Genius Electronic Lock

Townsteel Electronic locks came out with the E-Smart deadbolt and the E-elite. They come in two primary functions: the 2000 series - the push button, and the 5000 series - a touchpad with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or RFID card options. These locks are great, and the fact they don't require any extra holes is just a huge plus. Now, there are commercial heavy duty grade locks on the market today that don't need any additional holes.

Then, there’s the E-Genius Push Button Electronic Lock; this does not require any extra holes as long as you have a deadbolt hole and a lever hole or a novel. It is an interconnected lock giving it two locks. And as the interconnected lock goes, look at the deadbolt and the knob. When you pull the lever down, both of these go in because it works as one. Let’s talk about the functions. This E-Genius is a push-button, so this is the 2000 series. You can also get the 5000 series.

As far as programming goes, I hope that all 2000 series locks program the same way and all 5000 locks program the same way.

Let's bring it around to the front. This is a clutched function, so you do not see the deadlatch go when you pull the lever down. However, if I turn the key or enter the code, both come in, the deadlatch and deadbolt as you pull the lever.

You might be asking, ‘Well, how do I get this deadbolt latch out? How do I get it fully engaged in the lock position from the outside?’ The answer is simple. All you have to do is pull the lever up,  and it's fully locked.

Before you order the E-Genius, this lock’s essential aspect is the distance between the two holes. You have two options. Option 1 is to request a four-inch center to the center hole - the standard commercial prep, and Option 2 is five and a half inches center to the center hole - the standard residential prep. It's super important, so make sure that you know these before ordering.

For me, Townsteel outdid themselves again with this because having the ability to have an electronic lock with a couple of different series to pick from, with having both the deadlatch and the deadbolt for security, is just incredible. I'm super happy with it, and if you find yourself on a job with the four-inch or five and a half inch center to center holes, I think this lock could be a great fit. I'd love to know what you think of it in the comments below. Thank you, and we'll see you next time!
