Key Programming | Smart PRO Review: 2018 Nissan Altima W/ Proximity Key!

With the 2018 Nissan Altima, you will hone your locksmithing skills. I duplicated the emergency key as an extra prox key since it uses a prox key. Using the SmartPRO, I'm going to add in one of the Ilco lookalike replacement Nissan 4 Button prox key. Since, among the available programmers, it's one of the few that doesn't need you to do anything. We can begin programming right away.

Don't forget to check out the MYKEY'S Pro app for all of the vehicle's pertinent details. Attach the Smart PRO to the OBD 2 port. Once that's completed, we're ready to start programming.

Connect Smart Pro to OBD 2 Port

Go to Vehicle Selection, look for Nissan, then Altima 2018 Prox four doors.

 Vehicle Selection on Smart Pro

Hit Connect, switch the ignition off, turn on the hazards, and click OK.

Get to Program Prox Keys and hit the play button. Read and follow the warning saying 'Do not depress the brake pedal. Ensure all the doors are closed. A maximum of four keys is allowed to be programmed. If a programmed key with RKE is available, then press the lock button, use Key #1.' If you don't have RKE, proceed by clicking OK. Another warning will appear, saying, 'All programmed keys will be deleted. Are you sure you want to continue?', click Yes.

Enable time for the SmartPRO to request security access. If the process fails, start over from the beginning until access is given.

PROGRAMMING 1ST PROX KEY

Proceed by pressing and holding the START/STOP button until the ignition switches on, then hit OK. Now, make sure the ignition is off, then tap OK. Read the instruction saying 'Press and release the START/STOP button with the logo end of the first prox, and keep the prox next to the START/STOP button. The dash should beep, and the security light should blink 5 times.' Do it and click OK. You'll be hearing a beep afterward. Next, 'Press and release the START/STOP button to switch off.' Do it, and then tap OK.  A question saying 'Do you want to program more keys?' will appear, choose Yes.

PROGRAMMING 2ND PROX KEY

Repeat the process like in the 1st prox key. Start by pressing and releasing the STRAT/STOP with the logo end of the following prox key. Click OK after hearing the beep. Followed by pressing and releasing the START/STOP button to switch it off, then click OK. Stop the programming if you are done by clicking NO to the question.

ENDING THE PROCEDURE

To end the programming, press/release the START/STOP button with the logo end of Key 1, ensure the key is next to the START/STOP button until the dash beeps, then click OK.

Press/release the START/STOP button to switch the ignition off, then hit OK. Now, the procedure complete.

You can test the newly programmed keys after each programming session. To ensure that everything is still running, compare the operation of your freshly programmed keys to the original key. To make sure your ignition and controls are working, try starting them with the new programmed key.

Key Programming guide using Smart Pro

Skill gained! I hope you've learned the steps on how to key reprogrammed OEM as well as the Ilco aftermarket key. Very interesting. I was getting a little lost whenever I hear START/STOP button; for some reason, I'm always thinking, lock/unlock on the remote. So, I'm always like, 'Oh, no, not on the remote, on the dash.' I'd love to hear and know your experience. Please let us know in the comments below!
