Key Programming | 2018 Subaru Forester Transponder Key W/ SmartPRO!

A fine day to add the new Ilco transponder key to a 2018 Subaru Forester. It's an actual Subaru G-chip key. It's a great little add-on if a customer doesn't want to spend the money for a remote headed key. At the end of this programming, I'm going to have some fun.

The SmartPRO should be connected to the OBD2 port to begin the programming. Go to Vehicle Selection. Scroll down to Subaru, go to Forester, and the 2018 blade option. Make sure that you've checked the SmartPRO to know all the vital information you need.

Click the Connect button and wait for the app to load. Switch the ignition off. If you don't have any keys in, hit OK. Switch hazard on. Go to Keys Programmed to see how many keys are programmed first, and hit the play button on the bottom left. Switch ignition on, and you’ll see those currently programmed keys.

Follow it up by going to program keys. Hit the play button in the bottom left, then switch the ignition on with the registered key. The keys programmed will appear, which we just checked a second ago. Switch the ignition off and remove the key. Now, switch ignition on with this new key to be registered, which is the Ilco key. Registering and keys programmed will be added by 1. Disconnect the SmartPRO , and you’re good to go!

Program keys on the Smart Pro

For each programming done, you should test out the keys and be sure to hear the locks cycle. Compare the function of your newly programmed keys with the original key to be sure that everything is still working. You can try to start your ignition and controls with the new programmed key to ensure it works the same.

Well, that was super simple. We now have this new Ilco G Subaru key programmed up with this remote headed key that the customer already has. I would get the SmartPRO 5 out of 5 on this one. It was super simple to program, wasn't it? Thank you, guys, and we'll see you next time!
