A Locksmith's New Years Resolutions

A Locksmith’s New Years Resolutions

A new year is upon us and people are making resolutions to work out more, eat better, treat other or themselves differently, and more. As locksmiths, we may make some of these resolutions, but what are some other things to keep in mind as we conduct business in the next year? We put together a list of things to think about and accomplish this year.

1. Pick A Lock That You Wouldn’t Or Couldn’t Before

Certain locks can be intimidating to pick. Perhaps it is a lock with spool pins, mushroom pins, or sidewinder wafers. It might take a special locksmith tool that you hadn’t tried before like a tubular lock pick, extra practice, a different pick set, or some further instructions/training. Overcoming a challenging lock can be a great sense of victory, as well as saving your customer from having their lock drilled and replaced. Becoming more comfortable with this process may improve picking speed on less challenging locks.

2. Expand Your Key Blank Inventory

Having a key blank inventory with a wide variety of keys is both personally satisfying and confidence inspiring to customers. If customers can walk in and see a large key wall with a variety of keys, they are more likely to come to your store or call your mobile unit. Customers will be sure that you have the key blanks to get the job done. Even if you have to order the keys in later, it may be reason to order in a few extra to expand your key wall and inventory.

3. Train In A New Field Of Locksmithing

The locksmith industry is deep and vast. There are many nooks and crannies to discover that you may have never known. It could be safe opening, skeleton key generation, or key programming. All of these areas opens your business up to new markets you hadn’t been able to service before, providing you a further challenge as well. Many companies offer locksmith training online or in-person, as well as a wealth of free resources available online.

The opportunities and resolutions are endless! Keep pushing forward and growing your locksmith skills and business. We at CLKsupplies.com are here to help you along the way.
