Locksmith Skills, Why Custom Codes Make You Better

In the world of custom codes, their significance in the locksmith industry is undeniable. Custom codes are essential to locksmiths as they provide various benefits when it comes to enhancing their skills and staying ahead in the competitive field. When I say custom codes is what I am meaning is the space and depth information about a particular system. On electronic systems you can find them by looking at the "Code Cards" or "Custom Codes" section on the machine.

One key aspect of mastering custom codes is the importance of learning the process of generating them. By doing so, locksmiths can improve their ability to create unique keying systems for their clients. This specialized skill sets them apart from their competitors and helps build a strong reputation in the industry.

Another key aspect of mastering custom codes is to overcome the limits of a key system. Kwikset for example does not allow a large number of key bittings so by switching the system (using schlage depths) you can make larger systems while using the same keys.

By far the most valuable use of custom codes is understanding where the shear line of the lock is. By knowing this you can quickly diagnose issues with existing keys or locks by doing simple measurements. So, next time you are working with a new lock system pause and take a moment to understand the space and depth information! It will make you better, I promise!
