Locksmith Tool Review NEW LockVoy Rekeying Kit for Kwikset Type Locks

The new LockVoy rekeying kit for Kwikset locks is called a rekeying kit rather than a pinning kit because it contains not just the lock pins you need but also the equipment you'll need to rekey the locks. Having a separate Kwikset pinning kit rather than a universal one is important since the size gap between the universal pins and the Kwikset OEM type pins is too significant. If you're unfamiliar with this, there's a video that explains it in detail. Let's take a closer look at what's on the inside.

It does come in a nice plastic case, with the lock in the middle. Inside, there is a little foam piece. Place there to ensure the pins don't get moved around and in place during and after the shipping.

These little number 1, number 2 master pins will often slip around if you drop the package or something. Even though they're color-coded and straightforward to replace, we'd like to avoid this if possible. That's why we included this small foam piece.

Let me now demonstrate what is included in the pack. Kwikset bottom pins 1-6, Kwikset master pins 1-5, and a Kwikset top pin with springs. It will contain approximately 50 pieces of each dimension. There's plenty of space for a couple of hundred pins, enabling you to complete some massive Kwikset rekeying jobs quickly.

The kit is made in the USA and similar to OEM-style pins. As you can see in the picture, these will look like they're going to look identical to the OEM Kwikset pins. This means they're kind of flat on both ends, unlike a typical universal pin or as a bottom pin for a Schlage, so you can know for sure that these pins are going to fit ideally just like the OEM pins. Now, off to the side here, there's a nice big area for storage. The tools that will come with it here will be an aluminum plug follower, a Kwikset clip removal tool. It's also going to include a few different C clips for the back of the plugs because we all know occasionally, they go flying in. We can't find them, but the good news is that it still has plenty of room to put extra parts and pieces that are handy to open up a kit, and the same kit has additional minor parts and components you might need for the locks.

The last thing I want to show you is I love how the kit lid stands here. Some can't stand when I open a pinning kit, and the cover falls completely flat. I like to have a tiny screen to look at; as you can see here, it sits right at a nice angle. Allowing you not to be hunched over your kit; helps you grab the right size.

That's the LockVoy Kwikset-type rekeying kit. I'd love to know what you think of it in the comments below. Thank you, and we'll see you next time!
