To decode a Kwikset key, examine the cuts on the key blade and measure their depths using a caliper or a Kwikset key gauge. Each cut corresponds to a number (usually 0–6), which represents the bitting code; record these numbers in order from the bow (head) to the tip. This bitting code can then be used to cut a new key or rekey a lock.
