A rekey kit provides the tools and new pins needed to change the internal pin configuration of a lock, allowing it to work with a new key instead of the old one. By following the kit’s instructions, you remove the lock cylinder, replace the old pins with new ones that match the new key, and then reassemble the lock. This makes the old key unusable and only the new key will open the lock.
