A double cylinder deadbolt has keyholes on both the inside and outside of the door, requiring a key to lock or unlock from either side. This design increases security by preventing someone from unlocking the door by reaching in through a nearby window or opening. However, it can also pose a safety risk in emergencies if a key is not readily available inside.
