We CAN Program Transponder Keys by PJ Slauson

We CAN Program Transponder Keys!

As Locksmiths and Security Professionals, the world of Automotive Locksmithing is always changing. It seems every year or so the manufactures are changing the technology which means restricted keys that are either hard to get or outrageously expensive. We once again feel the need to buy or update our programming units so we can service our customers and it always feels like we just invested Five-thousand dollars on a new program and have not received our investment back yet!  I think we all know the frustration in the Auto business that I am describing above. After countless conversations with people all over the nation, I have put my thoughts below on the best decisions I believe we can make for the Transponder Programming Part of our business.

If we are going to spend the money Advertising “We Can Program Transponders Keys” we need to be able to program as many vehicles as possible. In the past few years, more and more key programmers have entered the market, we need to look at the volume of programming we do or are getting calls on to determine what kind of investment we need to make.

Do you program more than 5 vehicles per week? If not, I believe you should own a MVP machine by Advanced Diagnostics it is a pay per use machine meaning, every time you program a key it will cost you between $10-41 but has free program updates for the life of the machine, which allows us to “ keep up with the times “ without  paying the price. A secondary Programming machine is a good idea to cover the basics of Ford, Chrysler, or any other manufacturer that is popular in your area, by owning a secondary machine you can program the bread and butter without using the MVP- pay per use system.

The MVP has an initial cost of about $2700 and the “tokens” are $10 up to $41 depending if you buy 10 or 250 at a time, you can pick up a secondary “older machine”  like a NGS, Chrysler DART , SDD, TKO, T-Code, or Code Seeker for around $400 -$2000.
